Giant Interactive Group Headquarters

Giant Interactive Group Headquarters carves an interwoven tech campus of offices and employee amenities out of the landscape on the outskirts of Shanghai. Surrounded by a new man-made lake, the undulating office building serves as an icon for the company and a source of inspiration to the designers and programmers who work there.

The East Campus office building contains three zones: open, non-hierarchical office space; private offices, and the executive suites, which cantilever dramatically over the lake. To support the office spaces, the east campus also houses a library, auditorium, exhibition space, and café. Submerged below the expansive green roof of the West Campus, employees enjoy access to a pool, multi-purpose sports courts, and additional relaxation and fitness centers. The West Campus building culminates in a company guest hotel, where glass-floored private bedroom suites project over a wildlife pond. An enclosed walkway floating alongside the offices serves as the main circulation spine for the building, bridging over the street to connect the east and west campuses.

A range of features were incorporated in the headquarters to maximize energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Landscaped green roofs provide thermal mass that limit heat gain and reduce cooling expenditures. A double-skin facade and insu-lated glass curtain wall minimize solar heat gain and improve overall efficiency. A system of skylights works in tandem with the narrow profile of the office building to ensure ample natural daylighting for work spaces, while the central circulation spine, recreational amenities, and courtyard plazas provide opportunities for chance encounters and socializing outside of the confines of the office.
